I’m not sure what it is about the Gold Coast, but it seems to be getting a real makeover these days, and a magnet for the hottest restaurants around. Burleigh Pavilion is the ultimate destination for those looking for epic beachfront water views. The Pavilion Bar’s casual outdoor space is a place where you can step straight up from the sand, have a shower and rack your board off to the side. The terrace area offers an extensive list of tasty bar bites including wood-fired pizzas; burgers; salads; beer-battered fish and chips; seared barra; and a French dip steak sandwich.
But it’s the interiors that really have us swooning – and that’s all thanks to the hands of Alexander & Co. The brief was to create three spaces within a beach Pavilion structure; an a la carte restaurant, a coastal brasserie and a main outdoor beach bar. The client wanted the project to evoke memories of his childhood spent holidaying in Burleigh Heads with a 70s Gold Coast beach nostalgia. I think they’ve nailed the brief – but it totally feels fresh and contemporary and not too retro, even though faded pastel colours and breezeblock are peppered throughout.
