ADD ARTWORK
One of the ways to make a statement and set the tone of your bedroom is through feature artwork. This can be placed above your bedhead, on an adjacent wall, or in a corner that includes an armchair to create an ambient space. When opting for artwork above the bed, my go-to sizes are 110cm x 110cm and 100cm x 150cm. These work well with both king and queen beds and really set the look and feel of the room.
ACCESSORISE CAREFULLY
Function, form and simplicity are key here. As you’re working with a small surface area you need to have room for elements such as phone chargers, books and hand creams. Be sure to use different heights to create visual depth when styling. This can be done through ceramics and sculptural objects, or a simple vase with some foliage on its own can really make a statement too! If you’re stuck on what to select, look to your artwork for inspiration to guide your colours here. Less is always more!
LAYER YOUR BEDDING
For the perfect cushion-to-pillow ratio use two Euros, four standard pillows, and three cushions of differing sizes. Be sure to keep your darker and bigger cushions towards the back and your lighter and smaller cushions at the front. When selecting these three feature cushions opt for different fabrics, colours and textures; this creates visual interest in the space. When thinking about your throw or coverlet give a gentle nod to the colour palette you’ve used in the cushions to tie the whole look together.
